Madurai
One of my colleague was getting married at Madurai and we thought why not plan a road trip to a near by hill station and zeroed down Meghamelai which is around 100 Kms from Madurai. We started from Chennai on Friday afternoon and reached Madurai late night. We had dinner in Trichy at Kannappa and for all non veg lovers this place is a must try at Trichy.
Megamalai
Next day morning, we started off to Meghamalai morning and reached there around 11 AM, it was a good drive to the top of the hill where you can enjoy the scenic beauty as well as the cold climate along the way where there are lot of tea estates also. There are no proper restaurants in Meghamalai, we had lunch at a road side shop which had decent South Indian Tamil meals and visited few Dams. We started driving down hill by evening, since there are no places to stay in Meghamalai we booked a homestay through Airbnb in Kumily which is in the Kerala TamilNadu border.

On the way to Kumily, there are lot of vineyards and we spent sometime there to have our evening tea. Reached Kumily late evening and checked in for the stay.

Madurai
We didn’t have any plans at Kumily, so after breakfast we started back to Madurai to attend our friend marriage and then back to Chennai.
If you are near Madurai, this is a great 1-2 day trip to spend time amidst the beautiful landscape of Meghamalai and Kumily.
